Detoxification

Until now, I’ve only mentioned what you should take in. Next is what you should put out. This is the process of detox. The strangest thing in modern medicine is that one of the most important aspects in medical treatment, detoxification, is completely neglected and is not even taught at med school. They are taught to only prescribe medicine, and aside from that they will lop anything unneeded off during surgery. Modern medicine is so unbalanced that it could be said that it has forgotten how things need to be put out as well. The stupid doctors are the ones who don’t realize this big oversight is one of weaknesses of modern medicine.

However, from ancient times there was a strong emphasis on taking out toxic substances from the body or turbid blood. It can be said that they thought medical treatment started from detox. For example, according to Ayurvedic medicine, there is a type of cleansing called “Pancha Karuma”, which involves vomiting, evacuation, enema, evacuation through the nose, and phlebotomy (blood letting). Ancient Indians changed their method of physical and psychological cleansing depending on the season. I’m not saying that we should be doing the same and either way you must be accompanied by a specialist in Ayurvedic medicine to do that safely. However, AD patients must go through some form of detoxification.

AD patients have polypeptides which have not broken down due to excess protein. In addition, they may be vulnerable to lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium, endocrine disruptors, and hazardous heavy metals such as molybdenum. The foods made from large food companies also contain unnatural antiseptics, pesticides, and additives. Trans-dermal toxins from cosmetics, soap, shampoo, rinse, and detergent also have detrimental effects. Taking these harmful substances, in addition to taking the right supplements, will speed up the effects of AD treatment.

1. Fast

The effects of fasting have been established from ancient times. By fasting, you can cut out extra calories and take out the toxins in your body. However, fasting by drinking only water can be hazardous unless you get help from experienced doctors and instructors (AD patients with extremely severe symptoms should consult a experienced doctor).

In many cases, I recommend you go on a mini fast, where you only abstain from breakfast. Modern dietetics, which claims that people must eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is based on mere calculations of daily requirements for calories, vitamins, and the like, and is misguided and can have negative effects. This is most apparent when you realize that many Americans, who created and believe this idea, are suffering from life-style related diseases. There are currently 44 million obese Americans; one out of every 4 or 5 Americans is obese. Are you really going to believe dietary advice from this kind of country?

Sympathetic nerves are very active in the morning. However, during eating, the parasympathetic nerves must be more active. The salivary gland, pancreas, stomach, and the intestines secrete acetylcholine to activate parasympathetic nerves. This is a basic fact that’s even taught in high school. However, since the sympathetic nerves are active during in the morning, it is not a favorable time for the digestion and absorption of food. If you force your body to eat food in the morning, the parasympathetic nerves, which are starting to settle down, gets disturbed, and the balance between Th1 and Th2 gets disrupted.

When people used to work for agriculture, there might have been a necessity to obtain enough calories in the morning for intense labor. However, in contemporary society, young people, who are more likely to develop AD, are students or in the office or service industry, and do not need as many calories. In addition, there are not that many people that even walk to their office or school. Most people are just wasting their calories. Taking excess calories and protein at a time when you can’t even digest it properly, in protein’s case, will mean that many undigested polypeptides will remain in the intestines. As I have mentioned this in the beginning, polypeptides are a major factor in worsening AD conditions.

The most practical way to cut down excess polypeptides and calories is to skip breakfast. People who constantly check food labels and calculate calorie intake are “geeks”. Even if you try to calculate your daily calorie intake, you will most likely quit after a couple of days. In reality, many people do not continue this for a long time.

Conversely, skipping breakfast only requires a simple resolve. If you can’t bear skipping breakfast, limit yourself to pineapple, apple, or carrot (or a mix of those) juice. For example, if you eat dinner at 8, skip breakfast, and eat lunch at 12, you would have fasted for 16 hours. By doing this on a daily basis, you are essentially going through a 16 hour mini fast, which cleans up the body. Some women fast enough to stop their period to stop AD symptoms. This is detrimental to your health, and skipping breakfast is enough.

There are many epidemiology surveys that research whether eating breakfast increases your lifespan. Many of these surveys show that eating breakfast live a longer life. However, statistics can be easily manipulated. Statistics can even show that not smoking increases stress and chances of getting lung cancer. The people who live a long life are currently in their 80’s or 90’s, and when they were young, they most likely went out to work on the field or out sea starting from 4 or 5 in the morning. In those extreme situations, it is necessary to eat breakfast. These people are robust to begin with. These conditions that these people were in are not applicable to contemporary people. If young people now take breakfast, they will definitely live shorter. At time where people are eating more than enough, cutting down on excess calories will effectively treat AD (However, students who have athletic extracurricular activities should eat enough food for their sports.). In the Jomon Period (BC 10,000 – BC 400), Japanese people took 1500 to 1600 calories, in the Edo Period (AD 1603 – AD 1867) people 1700 calories, and now, people take 2000 calories. The calorie difference between the Jomon period and now equates to the calories from breakfast. During the Jomon period, people woke up when the sun went up and slept when the sun went down. None of them had AD then.

Although this is anecdotal, I skip breakfast as well. However, at times when I spend a couple of days at a hotel and fall into the temptation of a fancy all-you-can-eat breakfast, I eat breakfast as well. When that happens, I will get pimples on my face; it is a sign that I am taking too many calories.

2. Sauna Bath

Saunas are said to have been invented 2000 years ago in central Asia or Finland, and since then, has been used for detox and health enhancement over the world. Saunas have been used for mercury detoxification by miners in the 17th century to a American NPO rehabilitation program, “Narconon”, aimed to help drug addicts. Even the long lasting Indian Ayurvedic doctors have been using heated sand and stones to radiate far-infrared rays, which warm the body, for detox.

Skin is a massive organ that has an area of 1.6 meters squared (for adults) and weighs 3 kilograms (9 kilograms if you include hypodermal tissue). In addition to protecting the body, it has the important function of releasing harmful substances that have accumulated in the body in the form of sweat. This function is similar to that of the kidneys, and thus, using a sauna for detox is extremely effective.

In general, it is good for your health to sweat, but eccrine sweat glands, which produce clear sweat that controls your body temperature, do not release any toxins and has no detox effect. You must sweat from you sebaceous glands for detox. The lipid soluble toxins gather in the sebaceous glands, mix with sweat, and get out of the body. To do this, it is best to go in a sauna that emits far-infrared rays. Although you can sweat from exercise like jogging, but most of the sweat comes from the eccrine sweat glands, not the subaceous glands. However, there are few Japanese houses with saunas. That being said, it is far more sensible to purchase a sauna instead of expensive and unnecessary AD goods such as rugs that are “tick-free”. These days, it is common to find saunas at public baths, so you can use those. Going in the sauna should be avoided if you are in the acute stage of AD and are effusing liquids from your skin, going in the sauna may strongly irritate your skin. Also, don’t go in the sauna too frequently. Once or twice a week is enough. If you go in the sauna everyday, the vitamins and minerals that you took will escape with the sweat. Make sure you don’t go overboard with this.

Recently, my clinic has organized a health tour to Korea once a month. One of the reasons why we do this is because in Korea, there is a sauna made from a special soil, “yellow earth”. The far-infrared rays will penetrate 40 mm deep into the skin, and will make detoxification from sebaceous glandse more efficient. It is like a cure-all sauna.

3. Cleaning the intestines

The intestines contain old feces from constipation, ones that have gone through abnormal fermentation, and ones that haven’t been completely digested.

Cleansing your body of these is extremely important in conditioning your intestines, and as I have mentioned in the good intestinal bacteria section, is important in controlling the body’s immune system.

“Coffee enema” is widely known, and it was originated from a leading doctor in alternative cancer treatment, Max Gerson, 70 years ago. Another less-known one is the Ayurvedic “Bastil”, or “medicinal enema”, method, where a mixture of medical herbs and oils are injected. You will need to be assisted by a profession at least 2 or 3 times when doing either one of these enemas.

Many narrow-minded doctors who have only studied Western medicine and have never administered an enema staunchly oppose enemas citing evidence of patients dying of coffee enema. It is problematic how various kinds of enemas are advertised just for the sake of profit, but these intolerant doctors are troublesome as well. The number of those who die of coffee enema is several ten of thousandths smaller than the number of people who die of cancer treatment, even though it’s effects are not supported by “medical evidence”.

AD, when expressed in a figurative way, is how the toxins in the body struggle to get out of the skin. It is the death throes of the body’s detoxification functions. As a result, you must eliminate the toxins not only from your skin but also from your intestines.

4. Phlebotomy(Blood-letting)

You may have heard about phlebotomy before. Western medicine does not cover phleotomy, but this is a condition when the blood is thick, turbid, and does not flow smoothly. However, since it sounded so nonmedical, I did not take this condition seriously. As William Harvey wrote in his blood circulation theory, blood is supposed to be constantly flowing and not clotted.

However, I recently had a phlebotomy test and realized that, indeed, my own blood showed what turbid blood was like; thick, dark purple, and discernibly grimy. I couldn’t believe how my blood actually looked like that. It looks completely different from the blood used in blood tests.

A hospital director at a Korean doctor in Busan, who graduated from Kyung Hee Medical School with stellar grades and has a 30-year career, attested to the fact that phlebotomy can quickly and effectively take out large quantities of toxins in your body compared to other methods. It is even more effective than chelate treatment, a method that is starting to garner attention from doctors who practice alternative therapy. It’s a practice that’s been virtually forgotten, even though it was widely practiced in ancient times. It can be tough on the body for about a week, but after 10 days or so, the strain on your eyes and head lightens, and your physical condition will become much better.

Japanese acupuncturists and seitai (properly aligning the body) practitioners used to perform phlebotomies as a traditional treatment method, but now it has been ruled that only doctors can perform this. However, in Japan, only a small group of doctors know even the effects of phlebotomy. Doctors who practice only Western medicine can only treat patients with medicine with many side effects. As a result, phlebotomy has been completely forgotten. Recently, phlebotomy has been used on hepatitis patients. However, many doctors still don’t know how phlebotomy can prevent hepatitis from developing into cirrhosis and even deteriorate to liver cancer.

Korean doctors, on the other hand, actively practice phlebotomy. In Korea, there are doctors who practice traditional Korean medicine and doctors who practice Western medicine. This characteristic can be applied to medical school as well. Each school requires 6 years of education, and each provides the same social status. It is the patient’s choice to choose which kind of treatment he or she is going to get, but recently, more Koreans are choosing doctors that practice Korean medicine.

This is especially effective to alleviate the sudden worsening of symptoms, or rebound, when you stop using steroidal ointments.

If I were to write about the effects of phlebotomy, I would end up writing an extensive book. It is probably one of the first treatments practiced by humans. Thousands of years ago, the Chinese used bronze cups and the Greeks and Muslims put a cow’s horn on a person’s back and take out the blood. However, they weren’t so knowledgeable on bacterial infections, and as a result of using contaminated instruments, there were some cases where patients caught infectious diseases. Phlebotomy died out in Europe after the 18th century for this reason. However, if you are careful on that aspect and alter the amount of blood take out based on physical strength, phlebotomy is an extremely effective detoxification method.

5. Travel and detoxing the spirit

Detox of the mind may sound weird, but in reality, this is the undoubtedly the most important aspect of AD treatment. If you investigate the causes of AD or any other disease, you will always conclude with a person’s psyche. Everybody feels hate, fear, remorse, jealousy, humiliation, sadness, and isolation, but when these feelings become too intense, it will have a detrimental effect on the brain’s hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is deep within the brain in an area called the diencephalon, and despite only weighing 4 grams, it has extremely important functions. It is the nerve center of the autonomic nervous sytem and the upper center of the endocrine system.

The upper center of the endocrine system is the main controller, and, for example, when corticotropic releasing factor (CRF) is released from the hypothalamus, it aids the production of adrenocorticotropic hormones (ACTH) in the hypophysis ( = pituitary gland), which aids the adrenal cortex secrete steroid hormones. In other words, there are chains of reactions like “hypothalamus → pituitary gland → adrenal cortex”, “hypothalamus → pituitary gland → ovary”, “hypothalamus → pituitary gland →mammary gland”, or “hypothalamus → pituitary gland → thyroid”. The hypothalamus exerts control over extremely important hormones. AD patients must understand that steroids, which many AD patients immediately identify with AD, are controlled by the hypothalamus, and that the hypothalamus is easily affected by emotions. Put simply, the secretion of steroid hormones is affected by emotions. This is why it is so important to purge your negative thoughts.

Once you ponder over what you could do cleanse your negative thoughts, you can think of many techniques, including joining a high-end religion. However, one method that anyone can do and has definite results is a vacation. A trip can easily help you release your bottled up stress. There are many cases where AD symptoms disappeared when people went on trips but developed them again once they came back.

It can be a two-night trip. If you routinely do this, your pent-up negative thoughts will be released. If you can, go overseas; going to a place with a different culture, such as nearby Korea of Taiwan, will surprise you, and that surprise will cleanse your mind like a fresh cup of water washes away mucky water. My clinic organizes a 3 to 4 day trip to Korean clinic in Busan once every month or two so patients can cleanse their mind and body (through phlebotomy). If you are interested, please contact my clinic.

I have mentioned 5 methods of detoxification above, but try to implement mini-fasts, saunas, and vacations into your lifestyle as much as you can.
