I have a dream. I want people to be healthy with natural products, rather with chemical drugs which are sometimes actually responsible for deteriorating our health further.

Last week I was consulted by a daughter of an 86-year-old patient. He has been taking antihypertensive and stomach pain medication (containing aluminum) for 50 years and is now showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. This is a typical iatrogenic case. Over half a century, if you are given chemical drugs, you can suffer from any diseases.

If you are taking antidepressants or sleeping pills, your life style inevitably is going to change. Days and nights might be reversed, physical and mental energy will be lost, and you will soon find yourself invalid.

Anti-hyperlipidemic agents might actually lower good cholesterols of your body. And one of its side effects is rhabdomyolysis. Similarly, immunosuppressive agents or biologics used for the treatment of psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis are likely to develop cancer whatever cautiously they are administered.

Therefore, I launched this website about 15 years ago and I’ve been advocating to the readers ” Let’s cure our diseases with vitamins and minerals.” By August 2015, my website has already reached 10 million hits. Over this period, I have given consultations to patients suffering from cancer, atopic dermatitis, menopausal syndrome, depression, ADHD, insomnia, psoriasis, hypertension, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases. From the experience, I have a conviction that vitamins and minerals indeed improve sometimes the condition of patients even better than chemical drugs.

But vitamins and minerals are not enough. We need unique and more potent natural products to heal. Thus, we have been developing new supplements from Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet in Latin), Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei in Latin), Proteoglycan from salmon’s nose cartilage, Enteric Coated Lactoferrin, Pine Needle Oil, etc. Recently we have added one of the folk remedies of Nepal in the form of blend of essential oils, enhancing the therapeutic effects. In addition, we are proud to announce our new product “Green Juice.”

Japanese food is in a boom worldwide. Yomiuri Shimbun (newspaper) on October 22, 2015 reported that “Nutrition” was the theme of Expo Milano 2015 that kicked off in May and concluded in October and “Japan Pavilion” was one of the most popular in the event. It further wrote:[Japan pavilion introduced traditional food culture such as “one soup three greens”, along with rural landscapes making full use of the video and technology. The 50 minutes long exhibit was titled “Journey around the food.” Visitors lined up for about 8 hours to get inside and the pavilion had over 2 million visitors. Italian media reported it as the most popular exhibition hall]

I am more surprised by the interest of Italian people who are rich in Mediterranean cuisine of olives and seafood.

It is obvious that Italian food lovers must have been attracted by the simplicity and healthiness of Japanese food. “One plate meal” and “one soup three greens” look simple, beautiful, and eliminates the extra luxury on food, which leads to Shinto and Zen. This is the aesthetic singleness and simplification of the Japanese. Italian people are sympathized with this aesthetic consciousness. We have reached an era where satiation comes from simple beauty of rice and vegetables in frugal lacquered tableware rather than from delicacy of luxury silver tableware.

Finally “one soup three greens/vegetables” or “one plate meal” got sophisticated to Aojiru (Green Juice), a single stick of which is thought to have the essence of natural nutrition. Green juice takes the idea that food and medicine comes from the same source. No other supplements are more simplified and nearer nature than Aojiru (Green Juice). Aojiru is unlikely to be found in foreign countries. Even if found, they are either imported from Japan or mere powder of dried vegetables.

However, our product “Aojiru : Green Juice” is completely different from powder of vegetables. First, the plants used are obtained from pesticide-free farm and they are processed in the factories having international standards. We have designed it in a way that the important nutrients of the plants do not get lost during processing, can be stored for a long time, has a good taste and gets easily dissolved in water, making it easy to drink. “Aojiru : Green Juice” is an essence of Japanese tradition and culture. So, we can say that the world will be following the supplement models of Japan in coming five years.

Supplemental therapies in developed countries like the United States seem to be logical and effective at first glance, because accumulated “scientific evidences” proved. But actually the efficacies are not so sufficient than we expect. If so effective as evidences show, why is the number of arthritis patients in America double to that of Japan even when glucosamine and chondroitin are said to be effective for joints? Something is critically missing.

The missing link might be “whole food”. A single chemical as a supplement from one vegetable should not be used. A vitamin or mineral extracted from some source never behaves similarly as in its natural state. For example, lycopene is a carotenoid found in tomatoes. This is believed to be good for prostate. Thus, it is often used for conditions like prostrate hypertrophy. However, single use of carotenoids like β- carotene increases the risk of lung cancer in smokers. Even there is no evidential data, lone administration of lycopene is thought to be increase the risk of prostate cancer.

Lycopene in tomatoes is present with other carotenoids and polyphenols, making it healthier to eat. However, it’s impossible to eat whole tomatoes in large quantities every day.
This is how the concept of “Aojiru : Green Juice” came forth. We feel the incomplete wheel of supplement therapy gets complete with the Green Juice. We have devised this therapy not only for Japanese but keeping foreigners in mind too. We have named it as “Doctors Mega Green Juice.”

The components of “Doctors Mega Green Juice” are Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet), Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei), Mulberry Leaves, Agave Inulin, Green Tea. We have added stevia for a little sweetness. Addition of sweetness is to make it easily drinkable. Green juice can be drunk by dissolving in normal or lukewarm water, depending on the preference. This can also be taken by dissolving in milk or by mixing with ice cream and yogurt.

Here, I am going to write about some main components of Doctors Mega Green Juice: Shell Ginger, Ashitaba, Mulberry Leaves and Agave Inulin.

Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet in Latin): You might have come across Shell Ginger a number of times in my website. This is a perennial plant of the ginger family. But Shell Ginger is not the same as ordinary ginger. Please don’t confuse Shell Ginger with ordinary ginger. Very much different in health benefits. And through the traditional fermentation technique we have improved the health benefits of Shell Ginger drastically. And powder them. We named it as “Fermented Powder of Leaves of Alpinia Zerumbet-Makise”

Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei in Latin) : This is a perennial plant indigenous to the Izu island chain that is a group of volcanic islands stretching south and east from the Izu Peninsula, Japan. Now it belongs to Tokyo Prefecture, and there are flights between the islands and Tokyo. But until 150 years ago, the islands were very remote and two of them were used to place internal exiles. They were engaged in arduous compulsory labor. To support their never waning stamina they ate this plant daily, because the local people and the exiles knew of Ashitaba’s powerful tonic effects. Traditionally they boiled this plant or added it to soup. And the powder of Ashitaba is mixed with buckwheat powder to make nutritious soba noodles.

When the stalk of Ashitaba is cut, yellow sap exudes from the haulm. This sap was effectively used in the external treatment of smallpox. This is described in an old botanical book, Yamato honzo, by Kaibara Ekiken ( doctor and botanist during the Edo period )
Nowadays modern scientists have verified that the sap contains special chalconoids, coumarins, and vitamin B12 which greatly contribute to human health. One of the interesting discoveries of the components of Ashitaba is that the 3 chalcones — xanthoangelol, 4-hydroxyderricin, and isobavachalcone– help to increase Adiponectin production in our bodies. Adiponectin is a protein hormone that modulates glucose regulation and fatty acid oxidation. This hormone is exclusively secreted from adipose tissue into the blood stream.
One of the amazing effects of Adiponectin is reduction of visceral fat.

CHALSAP-P8 is the trade name of Ashitaba Chalcone.

CHALSAP-P8 is the trade name of Ashitaba Chalcone.

And more wonderful effect. The two chalcones — Xanthoangelol, 4-Hydroxyderricin — can destroy cancer cells.
The cell in the movie is Human Hepatoma Cell Line, HepG2.
Control : the cell is proliferating by cell division.
Xanthoangelol induces apoptosis of HepG2. It takes a few hours.
4-Hydroxyderricin destroys HepG2 rapidly by another mechanism within one hour.

Mulberry Leaves: Do you know silkworm (Bombyx mori), a tiny little worm that can produce silk of about 1.5km in length? Just as Koala can only feed on Eucalyptus leaves, Silkworms have evolved to eat only mulberry leaves. If you see the table below, mulberry leaves are rich in minerals like Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Iron.

In addition, they also contain high amount of Vitamin A and Vitamin B1, which is not shown in the table. Like in oysters, mulberry leaves also have a high zinc content. That’s why silkworms can produce that much silk.
The addition of mulberry leaves gives us an advantage as it is rich in Potassium content. Potassium is a very important mineral. In modern diets, the ration of Sodium and Potassium has changed significantly from old diets.

We are consuming less amount of Potassium every year and we are in an urgent need to increase our potassium intake. However, use of supplements to do so can sometimes be dangerous. In worst case, high Potassium content might lead to fatal arrhythmia. Therefore, in the United States, supplemental products contain very modest amount of Potassium i.e. not exceeding 99mg. So, one of the most secure methods of Potassium intake is from Green Juice. You can safely consume Green Juice as far as you don’t have kidney problems.
At the same time, Mulberry leaves also contain an important alkaloid DNJ (Deoxynojirimycin), which inhibits the glucose absorption in the intestine. Also, the famous Zen Priest Eisai, founder of Rinzai school has written about the effectiveness of mulberry leaves in diabetes, in his book “Kissa Yōjōki (Tea Drinking Cure)”. Various efficacies of mulberry leaves have also been described in “Shennong Ben Cao Jing,” a book on ancient Chinese pharmacology. In other words, mulberry is a very effective plant against diabetes. In addition to DNJ, which is usually cited for antidiabetic effects, mulberry leaves contain other active ingredients, which haven’t been well studied yet.

Agave Inulin: It is obtained from a plant called Blue Agave, native to Mexico. Inulin is a highly soluble dietary fiber, which mostly reaches large intestine, as it cannot be absorbed in upper gastrointestinal tract. Although dietary fibers were previously thought useless, it is considered now as a major class of nutrients because of its various health promoting actions.

One of the confirmed effects of Inulin is that it increases the prebiotic activities of bifidobacteria. Inulin changes to fructooligosachharides in the gut, which becomes the food source for bifidobacteria. This leads to the cleaning of the intestine by the suppressed growth of harmful bacteria, resulting in easy clearing of bowel. Increase in bifidobacteria number also increases HDL, maintaining the proper level of cholesterol in body.

It also improves the absorption of minerals. According to a research carried out by Osaka City University, Japan, calcium can be absorbed easily in presence of high inulin.

More importantly, inulin delays the absorption of sugar by liver, barring the rapid secretion of insulin. “Jerusalem artichoke”, a plant native to North America containing a large amount of inulin is referred as “diabetes potato”, and is popular among people of valley of Tenryu River of Nagano Prefecture, and Kumamoto Aso in Japan. In general, many plants of Asteraceae (Compositae) family such as Dahlia, Dandelion, Burdock, Chicory are said to contain inulin. Moreover, unlike hicory inulin, agave inulin has a specific branched structure, which makes it highly soluble in water (300 grams of agave inulin can be dissolved in 100 grams of water).

Blue agave has been confirmed as one of the staple foods from the analysis of human waste and fossils found in ruins of Mexico dating back to 2500 to 9000 years ago. In other words, it is a very safe food. The plant source of agave inulin is also a source of distilled liquor called tequila. Tequila is produced by removing the stem part “piña” in twelfth year. The sap accumulated in Pina is collected by piercing a hole and used to prepare another fermented alcoholic beverage called Pulque, whose origin has been found in the holy ruins of Teotihuacan civilization that existed between 200BC to 600AD.
