Please observe the deep lingual veins of your tongue, running behind your tongue, in front of the mirror. If you found small varicose veins there, it means that your arteries in the whole body might be considerably hardened. This is a greater dangerous sign or symptom than your blood profile of high cholesterol or LDL. It is said that phlebotomy was done in the ancient Korean Peninsula from these varicose veins to prevent myocardial infarction or stroke beforehand.
If yellowish patches above the eyelids (xanthelasma palpebrarum) , or back of the hand, or elbow, or Achilles tendon are found, familial hyperlipidemia (FH) is suspected. So, consult with a specialist. In such cases, the rate of cardiovascular diseases will be very high, so be careful. Or if a young person has a white circle around the iris (in case of elderly it occurs often, and you do not have to worry), it may be also due to FH.
Also, if triglyceride is 1000 mg / dl or more, there is a risk of causing acute pancreatitis, so please consult with a specialist as soon as possible. Hypercholesterolemia also occurs in hypothyroidism, nephrotic syndrome, and obstructive jaundice.
Especially, in case of a mild hypothyroidism, more attention is necessary because it is easily overlooked. If you are a woman and recently suffer from poor concentration, fatigue without reason, obese, coarse hair, increased gray hair, constipation, chilling, depression, insomnia, irregular menstruation, slowed pulse, etc., and your cholesterol level is high, please also check the function of the thyroid gland. Especially, when ALP is low simultaneously, please be careful. [Cholesterol ↑ ALP ↓] sometimes means that your thyroid function got decreased.
Hypothyroidism occurs more in women than in men. But it does occur in men, too. So, above mentioned symptoms appear, consult with a thyroid specialist.

Often general health check shows that your triglyceride level is higher than normal range. But are you sure your triglyceride is really high? Please don't jump to antihyperlipidemic drugs! Wait a moment! When did you draw the blood ? Please try to remember. The value of triglyceride rises markedly after meals. Please fast at least 14 to 16 hours before you draw blood. Otherwise the exact value will not come out. Also, avoid alcohol. If alcohol and fat are ingested at the same time, even after 12 hours, double value than the usual one will come up.
For example, if you drink alcohol with friends and eat grilled meat until 12 o'clock previous evening, and the next morning you take breakfast, and draw blood for examination around 10 am, then it is not possible to get accurate values. At least, finish your dinner by 7 pm on the day before blood drawing, and do not take anything except water. And, of course, do not take breakfast and go for the examination.
If you are already taking antihyperlipidemic drugs, you should not stop suddenly the medicine. Because the rebound may take place, and it would have an adverse effect on the cardiovascular system. Please consult with your doctor and gradually reduce the drugs.
